ABBATTE’s headquarters are located in the Monastery
of Santa María de la Sierra on the northern side of the
Guadarrama mountains in Segovia, along the border
of a pine forest and an oak wood. Dating back to the
13th century, it was built in the Cistercian style, during
the architectural transition between the Romanesque
and Gothic styles. It was constructed in a site that was
venerated for being one of the most beautiful in the
region. The property was disentailed in the 19th century
and eventually abandoned, falling into ruin over the
years until it had almost completely disappeared. The
abbey’s remaining parts as well as the foundations
of rest of the monastery have only recently been
excavated and restored.
ÁBBATTE está situado junto al Monasterio de Santa
María De la Sierra en la ladera norte de la sierra de
Guadarrama en Segovia en la linde de un robledal y un
pinar. Data del siglo XIII y fue construido bajo la norma
cisterciense durante la transición del románico al gótico
en un lugar ya entonces parcialmente sacralizado,
en uno de los más bellos entornos naturales de la
provincia. El proceso de desamortización del XIX y el
progresivo abandono del lugar lo convirtieron en una
ruina, hasta acabar casi en su total desaparición. Ya en
nuestros días se han podido consolidar los restos de la
abadía y las cimentaciones del conjunto
In the newly created space next to the monastery, ÁBBATTE offers courses, seminars and conferences on topics
related to textiles, fashion, art, and the philosophy and science of color. All the courses are taught by specialist
in each of the topics. We also offer workshops on weaving and natural dying.
En la estancia anexionada al monasterio se realizan cursos, seminarios y conferencias de temas relacionados
con el textil, el color, la moda y el arte. Los cursos son impartidos por especialistas en cada uno de los temas.
También se desarrollan cursos prácticos de tejeduría y tintes naturales.

workshop
The creative process of Ábbatte products is slow and
complex, requiring a high degree of technique and
dedication. First we handpick the fibers and make a
sample to see how the chosen fibers work together.
We then separate the threads, arrange them parallel to
each other, and tighten them on the loom (this makes
the warp). Finally, we intertwine other threads over the
parallel strands, slowly weaving together the textile.
Once we finish the fabric, we cut and hand wash each
piece and prepare it for the finishing touches.
El proceso de fabricación de las piezas de ÁBBATTE es lento
y complicado y exige dedicación y técnica. Primero se eligen
las hilaturas y con ello se hacen muestras para comprobar
el comportamiento de las fibras. Luego se preparan los
hilos y se disponen paralelos y tensos en el telar (urdimbre).
Sobre estos hilos se entrelazan otros hilos (trama) que van
conformando el tejido. Cuando el tejido está terminado se
corta, se lava a mano y se prepara para la fase de acabados.

Here, local weavers create, wash and finish all textile products. All of our products are made in Spain.
En el taller de ÁBBATTE se trabaja con telares manuales y con fibras naturales de alta calidad.
Aquí se tejen, se lavan y se acaban los productos textiles por tejedores locales. Todas las piezas están hechas en España.
