State Route 54 (SR 54) at Interstate 805 (I-805) will be closed
sporadically in both directions overnight next week to accommodate
work to widen the freeway bridge. The sporadic closures will be
between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.

will be detoured onto northbound
I-805. Drivers will then exit at East
Plaza Boulevard, take I-805 south,

closed intermittently overnight through November to accommodate
work to widen the freeway bridge. The sporadic closures will be

ABOUT THE PROJECT:
Sweetwater Road Closures/Detours
The work is part of the first phase of the I-805 South Express
Lanes Project, a $1.4 billion effort to create a modern new
transportation backbone for South County. Construction on the first
phase of the project began in June, 2012. Work includes building
one carpool lane in each direction along an eight-mile segment
of the freeway stretching from East Palomar Street in Chula Vista
to State Route 94 in San Diego. The project is expected to be
completed in late 2014.

In an effort to reduce congestion during construction, travelers are
being encouraged to consider alternative routes to work and school,
especially during peak travel periods. One solution is to take the
South Bay Expressway. Use the South Bay Expressway for an
easy, stress-free commute to downtown, Sorrento Valley, Santee,
Interstate 8 and Interstate 15, Otay Mesa, Mexico and more.
Construction crews will work to minimize impacts to nearby

la creación de una nueva y moderna infraestructura de transporte
para el sur del condado. La primera fase del proyecto comenzó en
junio del 2012. Las obras incluyen la construcción de un carril de viaje
compartido en ambas direcciones de un segmento de ocho millas de
la autopista desde la Calle East Palomar en Chula Vista hasta la Ruta
Estatal 94 en San Diego. Se espera que el proyecto esté terminado a
