Student Testing
Next Month, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grader students will participate in the new PARCC assessments for Illinois in
English Language Arts and Math. We will be spacing the testing out in order to retain instruction in our day.
Teachers have been preparing students and we are excited to show what we know! The testing sessions will
begin the next week of March 9th.
Fun Fair
ALES is proud to host our school’s fun fair next Saturday, March 14th. Thank you to all our volunteers and
donations as we look to put on a great event for the community!
Illinois 5Essentials School Survey
We need to hear from you! We are only at about 8% of the required 20% for a report to generate
(each week we make a little more progress)! Your participation in the parent survey will help
us understand the conditions at ALES and guide improvement. Please

Lost and Found
For the past couple of week’s we have displayed our lost and found clothing for students after eating lunch
and will be donating any clothing that is not reclaimed. Please remind your student to check for anything that
may have gone missing or stop in to view the items yourself.

IROC – I’m Reducing Obesity in Children
The program.
This unique nutrition program designed for both parents and children was created by healthcare
providers from the Diabetes and Nutrition Center of Presence Saint Joseph Hospital.
Our mission is to promote the health and well-being of children and adolescents so they become
healthy adults.
Children ages 5-10 years will love the hands-on cooking classes that will teach and introduce them to
the importance of nutrition, easy recipes, simple measurements and kitchen safety. Parents will take
part in educational workshops led by certified diabetes educators and registered dietitians.
How to join.

El programa
Un programa de nutrición extraordinario diseñado tanto para los padres como para los hijos que fue
creado por los profesionales en la salud calificados del “Centro para la Diabetes y Nutrición” de
Presence Saint Joseph Hospital.
Nuestra misión es promover la salud y bienestar de los niños y adolescentes para que puedan
convertirse en adultos saludables.
Los niños entre 5-10 años de edad disfrutarán participar en clases culinarias las cuales les
introducen y enseñan sobre la importancia de la nutrición, recetas fáciles, precauciones sencillas y
seguridad en la cocina. Los padres participarán en talleres educativos que hacen énfasis en la
nutrición apropiada para los niños.
