REPORTING CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT: When a child tells a particular person who is an
individual required to report child abuse, the communication is not privileged. That individual, by law,
must report what the child has related to him or her.
WHAT IS CHILD ABUSE? Child abuse includes:
Physical abuse; unlawful corporal punishment or injury
Sexual abuse; sexual assault; exploitation
Willful harming or endangering a child; emotional maltreatment
General and severe neglect
PHYSICAL ABUSE: Physical abuse is any
SEXUAL ABUSE: As defined in the Child Abuse

Inflicted physical injury most often represents
unreasonably severe corporal punishment or
unjustifiable punishment. This usually happens
when a person is frustrated or angry and strikes,
shakes, or throws the child. Intentional, deliberate

twisting limbs, or otherwise torturing a child, is also
included in this category of child abuse. Reportable
injuries include bruises, abrasions, lacerations,
burns, bite marks, head injuries, and internal
injuries.

WHAT IS NOT CHILD ABUSE?: For purposes

screaming, threats, blaming, sarcasm),
unpredictable responses, continual negative moods,
constant family discord, and chronically
communicating conflicting messages are examples
of ways parents may subject their children to
emotional abuse.
SEVERE NEGLECT means the negligent failure of a
parent or caretaker to protect the child from
severe malnutrition or medically diagnosed nonorganic failure to thrive. This includes the
intentional failure to provide adequate food,
clothing, shelter, or medical care.
GENERAL NEGLECT means the negligent failure of a
parent or caretaker to provide adequate food,
clothing, shelter, medical care, or supervision
where no physical injury to the child has occurred.
An example of inadequate supervision is when
parents leave their children unsupervised during
the hours when the children are out of school.

¿REPORTA EL ABUSO INFANTIL Y NEGLIGENCIA?: Cuando un niño le dice a una persona en
particular que es un individuo requerido a reportar abuso infantil, la comunicación no es privilegiada.

¿QUE ES ABUSO INFANTIL?: Abuso infantil incluye:

ABUSO FÍSICO: Abuso físico es cualquier acto que

ABUSO EMOCIONAL: Agresión verbal
(menospreciar, gritar, amenazar, culpar, sarcasmo),
reacciones imprevisibles, humor negativo continuo,
constante discordia familiar, y crónicamente
comunicando mensajes conflictivos son ejemplos de
maneras que padres pueden exponer a sus hijos a
abuso emocional.
NEGLIGENCIA:
NEGLIGENCIA SEVERA se refiere al descuido de un
padre o proveedor de cuidado de proteger al niño de
malnutrición severa o determinado desde un punto
de vista medico no orgánico fracaso a prosperar.
Esto incluye intencionalmente fallar en proveer
comida adecuada, ropa, refugio, o tratamiento
medico.
NEGLIGENCIA GENERAL se refiere al descuido de un
padre o proveedor de cuidado de proveer comida
adecuada, ropa, refugio, tratamiento medico, o
supervisión donde no ha ocurrido abuso físico al
niño. Un ejemplo de supervisión inadecuada es
cuando los padres dejan a los niños sin supervisión
durante las horas cuando los niños están fuera de
escuela.
