Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncológicas (CNIO) (Spanish National Cancer Research Centre) CNIO Meeting BLADDER CANCER: Searching targets and biomarkers using genomic and proteomic approaches Madrid, October 5-6, 2006 Abstract submission deadline: September 1, 2006 Organisers: Marta Sánchez-Carbayo Molecular Pathology Program, CNIO Carlos Cordón-Cardo Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, US Scope: Bladder cancer is a genetic disease, driven by the multistep accumulation of genetic and epigenetic factors, among others. These molecular alterations result in uncontrolled cellular proliferation, cell cycle deregulation, decrease in cell death or apoptosis, blockage of differentiation, invasion, and metastatic spread. The particular genetic and protein expression alterations that occur as part of the crosstalk between these pathways, will in great part determine the biological behavior of the tumor including its ability to grow, recur, progress and metastasize. The advent of high-throughput methods of molecular analysis can comprehensively survey genetic and protein profiles characteristic of distinct tumor types contributing to a better understanding of the molecular events taking place in bladder cancer progression. The Bladder cancer: Searching biomarkers and targets using genomic and proteomic approaches Meeting, aims for the discussion on the clinical impact of targets and pathways identified to be altered along tumorigenesis and bladder cancer progression using genomic and proteomic approaches. Such targets may underlie a particular clinical behavior and be developed into novel and specific tumor markers. Moreover, they may lead to the development of targeted therapies, that potentially be tailored to the aggressiveness of bladder tumors. Format: Speakers: 30 minutes presentations, 10 minutes discussion Oral session selected among applicants abstracts: 10 minutes presentations, 5 minutes discussion Poster session: exhibition through the whole meeting Abstracts submission deadline: September 1st, 2006 Registration fee: 150 euros Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncológicas (CNIO) Melchor Fernández Almagro 3, 28029 Madrid, Spain www.cnio.es/meetings [email protected] 1 Programme: October, Thursday 5th 9:15 - 9:30.
