UN PASSEIG PEL CEMENTIRI DE POBLENOU
El Cementiri de Poblenou, conegut també com Vell o de l'Est,
va ser beneït el 15 d'abril de 1819 pel bisbe Pau Sitjar, qui en
va promoure la construcció d'acord amb un projecte d'estil
neoclàssic de l'arquitecte italià Antonio Ginesi.
Barcelona a través dels seus cementiris.

El bisbe en va assumir la càrrega financera, per la qual cosa
l'administració del cementiri va quedar en poder de l'església,
i no va passar al municipi fins a les últimes dècades del segle x x.

El Obispo asumió la carga financiera, por lo que la administración
del cementerio quedó en poder de la iglesia, y no pasó al municipio
hasta las últimas décadas del siglo x x.
El cementerio ha recuperado el protagonismo al ser el primer
recinto funerario de la ciudad que dispone de una ruta guiada.
THE CEMENTERY OF POBLENOU
Poblenou Cemetery, known as the “old” or “eastern” cemetery,
was blessed on 15 April 1819 by Bishop Pau Sitjar, who
promoted its building in the neoclassical style of Italian architect
Antonio Ginesi.
The Bishop bore the financial cost, which is why the cemetery's
management remained in the hands of the church. It did not
come under the municipal district's management until the latter
decades of the 19th century.
The cemetery has now recovered its prominence, being the
first funerary enclosure offering guided tours.
Encara que sembli una paradoxa, conèixer la mort i les seves
manifestacions culturals i socials és una manera de conèixer
la vida d'una societat. Cementiris de Barcelona organitza una
ruta pel cementiri del Poblenou que ens mostra com era la
ciutat dels vius a l'època d'esplendor d'aquest recinte, donant
un passeig per la ciutat dels morts.
La ruta ens recorda que Barcelona no és una ciutat, sinó moltes
ciutats i ens convida a fer un viatge on trobarem personatges
històrics, populars i aventurers, i durant el qual també podrem
descobrir, entre altres coses, la riquesa, la pobresa, l'amor i
la mort. Al mateix temps, és un instrument de divulgació que
permet la recuperació i el reconeixement d'un extens patrimoni
artístic de gran valor, tant per a la ciutat com per als seus
visitants.

UN PASEO POR EL CEMENTERIO DE POBLENOU
Barcelona a través de sus Cementerios.
Aunque parezca una paradoja conocer la muerte y sus
manifestaciones culturales y sociales, es una manera de
conocer la vida de una sociedad. Cementiris de Barcelona
organiza una ruta por el Cementerio de Poblenou, que nos
enseña como era la ciudad de los vivos en la época de
esplendor de este recinto, dando un paseo por la ciudad de
los muertos.
La Ruta nos recuerda que Barcelona no es una ciudad, sino
muchas ciudades y nos invita a realizar un viaje donde
encontraremos personajes históricos, populares y aventureros
y en el que podremos descubrir otras cosas como la riqueza, la
pobreza, el amor y la muerte. Además es un instrumento que
permite la recuperación y reconocimiento de un extenso patrimonio
artístico de gran valor para la ciudad y sus visitantes.

Barcelona through its cemeteries.
Although it may seem paradoxical, getting to know death and
its cultural and social manifestations, is a way of getting to
know the life of a society. Cementiris de Barcelona has
organised a tour around Poblenou Cemetery, that shows us
what the city of the living was like in the times of this graveyard's
splendour, taking a walk around the city of the dead.
The Tour reminds us that Barcelona is not a city, it is many
cities, it invites us to travel to where we can find historical,
popular and adventurous celebrities, where we can discover
other things such as richness, poverty, love and death.
It is also an instrument through which we can recover and give
acknowledgement to a broad artistic heritage, which is of great
value for the city and its visitors.
