WHAT DOES THE LELLI KELLY ZOO
CONSIST OF?
This is a project where each pair is offered in two different
boxes, one for the right and one for the left foot.
WHY IS THIS?
This allows children to choose the right shoe
different from the left one.
WHAT IS THE BENEFIT?
Children learn right and left, choosing first
and wearing the shoes after.
For the Spring/Summer 2014 season zoo
themes are explained through flowers
and butterflies, introducing in this way
the “Garden” of the zoo
which develops in four different themes:

the boxes
are designed to differentiate left from right.
They have two different colours:
yellow for the left and green for the right.
THE LID
is attached to the box in order to enable an easier
selection and replacement (back into the box)
of the correct shoe.

THE ZOO DISPLAY
is made of birch wood and consists of plexi shelves
which can accommodate 40 left boxes
and 40 right boxes, from the four different families.
The crowning panel is removable
in order to change the theme of the different collections.

EXPERT’S OPINION
It is called “lateralization” and andresses a genetic process
which leads to develop two identical and symmetrical
hemisomas distinguishable in the left and right.
The structuring of the right and left with respect
to themselves and to others should be targetted towards the
7/8 year old and is the fundamental neuromotor process
in the development of the eye-hand coordination and a
proper academic performance. When this operation is not
assimilated the imperfect mastery of left/right drags
to adulthood. Dr. Scarselli of the Center Dada
says “when the laterality dominant is not
well defined, the activities of the
neocortex are complex and
stressful. Orientation, spatial
movement, reading, writing,
and linguistic activities
are confusing and tiring.”
