The God of peace be with all of you!
After the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus, he told his disciples,"Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me,
so I send you." (John 20:21) As disciples of Jesus we are also sent. We have a mission. The mission has
always been the same, "Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature. " (Mark 16:15) Here
inthe Diocese of San Bernardino we live out this mission by impacting family, neighborhood , and society with
the Gospel so that people's lives are filled with hope. Hope is the gift we are given to go through the pain
experienced by many during the recent wildfires which engulfed some of our local communities. We are one
with those who have suffered and with those who are offering assistance.
As a diocese we once more take a step to fill people's lives with hope by joining other dioceses throughout the
country for a National Day of Prayer for Peace in our Communities. On Friday, September 9, 2016 , Archbishop
Joseph Kurtz, President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) , is inviting all dioceses
throughout the country to spend a day in prayer reflecting on how we as Catholics can walk with and help
suffering communities experiencing division , conflict, distrust, and pain. Archbishop Kurtz states, "By stepping
forward to embrace the suffering , through unified, concrete action animated by the love of Christ, we hope to
nurture peace and build bridges of communication and mutual aid in our own communities."
In an effort for the people of the Diocese to fully participate in this National Day of Prayer you will be provided
activities to be offered at all parishes. These activities will remind us that the light of Christ through the mercy of
God will never be extinguished . We are called to be instruments of peace to take the light of Christ to places
where there is darkness, fear, and doubt. We must not believe that recent rhetoric and pain experienced in our
local communities is the norm for our future . As people of faith we have a mission that doesn't include giving
up, but striving to encounter new ways and opportunities to begin again.
I ask all pastoral leaders to ensure that this National Day of Prayer is lived out here in the Diocese of San
Bernardino. Inthe midst of busyness let us not diminish the power of prayer and the great need for peace inour
communities.
May God fill your heart with peace and love always!

jQue el Dios de paz este con todos ustedes!
Despues de la Resurrecci6n de Nuestro Senor Jesus, el le dijo a sus discipulos, "Paz a ustedes. Como el Padre me
envi6 a mi, asi yo los envio a ustedes." (Juan 20:21) Como discipulos de Jesus, nosotros tambien somos enviados.
Tenemos una misi6n. La misi6n siempre ha sido la misma, "Vayan por todo el mundo y proclamen el Evangelic a
toda la creaci6n." (Marcos 16:15) Aqui en la Di6cesis de San Bernardino vivimos esta misi6n impactando la familia,
el vecindario , y la sociedad con el Evangelic para que las vidas de las personas se llenen de esperanza. La
esperanza es el don que se nos da para afrontar el dolor experimentado por muches durante los recientes incendios
que han asolado algunas de nuestras comunidades locales. Somes uno con quienes han sufrido y somos uno con
quienes ofrecen asistencia.
Como di6cesis, una vez mas dames un paso adelante para llenar las vidas del pueblo con esperanza , al unimos con
otras di6cesis a traves del pals en un Dia Nacional de Oraci6n por la Paz en Nuestras Comunidades, el viernes 9 de
septiembre del 2016. El Arzobispo Joseph Kurtz, Presidente de la Conferencia Episcopal de Estados Unidos
(USCCB), esta invitando a todas las di6cesis del pais a una Jornada de Oraci6n para reflejar en c6mo nosotros
como Cat61icos podemos acompafiar y ayudar a las comunidades que estan sufriendo por causa de la division, el
conflicto, la desconfianza y el dolor. El Arzobispo Kurtz ha declarado, "Al dar un paso adelante para abrazar el
sufrimiento, a traves de acci6n concreta, unificada y animada por el amor de Cristo, esperamos fomentar la paz y
crear puentes de comunicaci6n y ayuda mutua en nuestras propias comunidades."
En el esfuerzo de que el pueblo de la Di6cesis participe plenamente en esta Jomada de Oraci6n les proveeremos
con actividades que puedan ofrecerse en todas las parroquias. Oichas actividades nos recordaran que la luz de
Cristo a traves de la misericordia de Dios nunca sera extinguida. Somes llamados a ser instrumentos de paz para
llevar la luz de Cristo a lugares donde solo hay obscuridad, miedo y duda. Debemos no creer que la ret6rica
reciente y el dolor experimentado en nuestras comunidades locales sean lo normal para nuestro future. Como gente
de fe tenemos una misi6n que no incluye darse por vencido, sino luchar para encontrar nuevas formas y
oportunidades de comenzar de nuevo.
Les pido a todos los lideres pastorales que se aseguren que este Dia Nacional de Oraci6n sea vivido aqui en la
Di6cesis de San Bernardino. En medic de todas nuestras ocupaciones no disminuyamos el poder de la oraci6n y la
gran necesidad de paz en nuestras comunidades.
