Families looking for a new school (All K4 and 5 graders) should apply now
through February 19th for the best chance to attend your first choice school.
Every year the district opens its MPS Three-Choice Enrollment process in order
to provide access to strong academic programs. Three-Choice allows families
looking for a new school for the fall to select up to three schools they would like
for their child. Families can apply online at mpsmke.com/EnrollMPS, at any MPS
School or at Central Office. Kagel families should feel free to come in between
8:30 am to 2:00 pm to meet with our Parent Coordinator, Ricardo Galaviz, who
can assist with the enrollment process. The process can take from 15-30 minutes
and no documentation is necessary. Come in today!
From the Desk of the Principal
We are in the month of February and the students just completed the STAR
Assessment. This assessment provides information on how the students are
performing in reading and mathematics. We are happy to report that many
students at Kagel were able to make progress and increase their levels from
October to January. I am very proud of the students for working very hard. Kagel
School also received an award last week for improving their attendance this
school year. Many students are coming to school and we are very happy that our
parents are helping us meet our attendance goal by having their child in school
every day. Great things are happening at Kagel! Just a reminder that we are
looking for new students. We have openings in all grade levels. If you know of
anyone who is in need of a school for their child, please send them to Kagel
School and we will be happy to register them. Parent teacher conferences are
quickly approaching. Please visit your child’s teacher and discuss the progress of
your child as well as learning some activities you can do at home to help your
child succeed. Although school ends in June, we need your child to be ready for
the next grade level. Let’s work together as a team for the success of your child.
Important Reminders
 Kagel Open House/Literacy Night will be on Thursday February 18th 4:30 pm
– 6:30 pm, come learn how to work with your child on reading and get some
free food while you’re here.
 Parent teacher conferences are Monday February 29 th and Wednesday
March 2nd 3:30 pm -7:15 pm. This is a great opportunity to check in on your
child’s education.
 There is no student attendance Monday, February 15th.

When should a
student stay home?
When children are sick, they
need to stay home. If your
child has any of the following
symptoms, please do not
send him/her to school:
 Fever of 100 degrees or
more. Children should stay
at home until the fever has
been gone for 24 hours.
 Vomiting or severe
diarrhea.
Children should stay home
until symptoms have been
gone for 24 hours.
 Severe cold or flu.
A little sniffle is not a reason
to stay home but a severe
cold or the flu is.
 Severe sore throat, ear ache
or persistent cough.
Severe pain or cough can
distract from studies and
also be a sign of a
communicable disease
(contagious). Common
communicable diseases
include: chicken pox,
measles, mumps and
whooping cough. Please
contact the office if your
child contracts one of these
diseases.

Las familias que buscan una nueva escuela (para K4 y 5to grado) deben aplicar
ahora hasta el 19 de febrero para la mejor oportunidad de asistir a su primera
escuela de elección. Cada año el distrito abre su proceso de MPS Three-Choice

Estamos en febrero y los estudiantes acaban de completar la evaluación STAR.
Esta evaluación proporciona información sobre cómo van los estudiantes en
lectura y matemáticas. Con gusto informamos que muchos estudiantes en Kagel
fueron capaces de avanzar y aumentar sus niveles de octubre a enero. Estoy muy
orgullosa de los estudiantes por trabajar tan duro. Kagel también recibió un
premio la semana pasada por mejorar su asistencia este año. Estamos contentos
de que nuestros padres ayudan a alcanzar nuestra meta de asistencia por tener a
su hijo en la escuela todos los días. ¡Grandes cosas están sucediendo en Kagel!
Un recordatorio estamos buscando nuevos estudiantes. Tenemos aberturas en
