March Madness- Once again!
Last year I wrote about March Madness (somehow I made the leap from
basketball to spring plant preparations). This year, it’s similar: March
Madness – the NCAA Basketball Tournaments and spring projects at the
Sioux City unload site and on the D & I Railroad.

A few fun facts about the NCAA Tournaments...
•
In 1999, CBS paid $6 billion (yes, that’s with a “B”), to the NCAA for the T.V. broadcasting rights to the men’s tourney.
•
The “Big Dance” is another name for the tourney.
•
UCLA has won the most NCAA titles with 11, Kentucky is 2nd with 7 titles.
•
The Tennessee Lady Vols have been to the Big Dance every year since it began in the 1981-82 season and have won 8 titles.
•
The SDSU (SD state, as NCAA calls them) women have been to the women’s tournament 7 of the last 8 years since going D-1.
•
SDSU is the acronym for San Diego State (not fair, I say!).
So, here’s the leap to LGE’s March Madness. This spring, the following projects are in madness mode:
In Sioux City, the decades-old car unloader and shaker are being
replaced. The new system, with three 36-inch take-away belts and
one 48-inch distributing belt, will improve unloading capacity and
efficiency. The system, designed by LGE’s Chris Kranzler and
installed by Hawkins Construction, has been under construction
since mid-December and is scheduled to be operational on or about
April 4th.
On the D & I Railroad, three timber
bridges are being replaced with precast
prestressed concrete structures on steel
pilings. The bridges were designed by
Kevin Oliver and are being installed by
Hawkins Construction. The first bridge
is finished, the second is underway and the
third bridge is scheduled to be completed
by April 4th, as well. These structures
replace bridges that were about 50 years
old and deteriorating.

La primavera es la manera
natural de
diciendo: “Vamos a la esta!”

Marzo locura- Una vez más!
El año pasado escribí acerca de la locura de marzo (de alguna manera me
dio el salto de baloncesto a la primavera preparaciones de plantas). Este
año, es similar: la locura de marzo - los torneos de baloncesto de la NCAA
y proyectos de primavera en el sitio de descarga de Sioux City y en el
ferrocarril D & I.

Por lo tanto, aquí está el salto a la LGE de la locura de marzo. Esta primavera, los siguientes proyectos están en modo
de locura:
En Sioux City, se están sustituyendo el descargador coche de décadas
de antigüedad y agitador. El nuevo sistema, con tres cinturones de
comida para llevar de 36 pulgadas y una correa de distribución de 48
pulgadas, mejorará la capacidad de descarga y la eficiencia. El sistema,
diseñado por LGE Chris Kranzler e instalado por Hawkins construcción, ha estado en construcción desde mediados de diciembre y está
previsto que entre en funcionamiento el o alrededor del 4 de abril.
En el ferrocarril D & I, tres puentes de
madera están siendo reemplazados por
estructuras prefabricadas de hormigón pretensado sobre pilotes de acero. Los puentes
fueron diseñados por Kevin Oliver y están
siendo instalados por Hawkins construcción. El primer puente está terminado, el
segundo está en marcha y el tercer puente
está programado para ser completado antes
del 4 de abril también. Estas estructuras
reemplazan a los puentes que estaban cerca.
